Condition
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries are unique, there's a target you're trying to get back to, a season you can't afford to miss, or a race on the calendar. Our approach is built around diagnosis, treatment, and a clear path back to performance.
Symptoms
How it usually shows up.
- Acute pain after a specific incident (sprain, strain, impact)
- Pain that worsens with sport-specific movements
- Swelling, bruising or visible deformity
- Inability to fully load or move the affected area
- Sense of instability or 'giving way'
Causes
Why this happens.
- Acute trauma, falls, collisions, awkward landings
- Overuse, too much volume, too quickly
- Training error, poor warm-up, sudden intensity changes
- Biomechanical issues, gait, technique, equipment
- Insufficient recovery between sessions
How we help
The Atlas approach.
Diagnosis first, we identify exactly which tissue is involved and grade the injury. Treatment combines hands-on work to restore movement, modality work (acupuncture where appropriate), and a phased rehab programme: protect → restore → strengthen → return to sport. We've worked with Premier League captains, Olympic medallists and the England U19 squad, the principles scale to weekend athletes too.
What you can do today.
- PEACE & LOVE in the first 72 hours (Protection, Elevation, Avoid anti-inflammatories, Compression, Education, then Load, Optimism, Vascularisation, Exercise)
- Maintain unaffected areas, keep training what you can
- Don't 'push through' significant pain
When to seek urgent help
If you experience any of these, see your GP or A&E rather than waiting for an osteopathy appointment:
- Visible deformity or suspected fracture
- Inability to bear weight after a lower-limb injury
- Significant swelling or rapid bruising
- Severe pain not improving over 72 hours
FAQs
Common questions.
- Should I come in immediately after an injury?
- Yes if there's no suspicion of a fracture or major structural injury. Early assessment gets you on the right rehab pathway faster and often reduces total recovery time.
- Do you work with professional athletes?
- Yes. Olympians from London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 have been treated at the Games and in clinic, alongside Premier League captains, EFL players and England age-group squad members. The same systematic approach is applied to every patient.
- Can I keep training?
- Usually yes, we'll identify what you can and can't do without compromising recovery. Modified training beats complete rest in most cases.
