Do I need a GP referral to see an osteopath?

No. Osteopaths in the UK are primary healthcare practitioners, you can book directly. We're trained to identify when symptoms warrant medical investigation and will refer you on to your GP or a specialist if appropriate.

Is osteopathy regulated?

Yes. All osteopaths in the UK must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) by law. The title 'osteopath' is protected, anyone practising without registration is committing a criminal offence.

What's the difference between an osteopath, chiropractor and physiotherapist?

All three treat musculoskeletal complaints with overlapping but distinct philosophies. Osteopathy tends to take a whole-body view, addressing a knee problem might involve the hip, lower back and even the foot. We use a wide range of hands-on techniques alongside rehabilitation.

How many sessions will I need?

Most uncomplicated cases see meaningful improvement within 2–4 sessions. More established or complex presentations may take 6–8. We'll give you a realistic timeline at your first assessment, and you should feel the work is moving forward each visit.

Will treatment hurt?

Treatment may feel intense at times, particularly trigger-point work and deep mobilisation, but should not be sharply painful. We adjust pressure throughout and check in constantly. You're always in control.

Will you 'crack' my back?

Only with your consent, and only when clinically indicated. High-velocity manipulation is one of many tools, soft-tissue work, articulation, mobilisation and exercise prescription all play a role. We'll explain everything before doing it.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Loose, comfortable clothing, shorts and a t-shirt are ideal. We may ask to see specific areas of the body; you'll always have privacy and a choice.

Online via the 'Book a session' button at the top of any page, you'll pick your preferred clinic, practitioner and time slot. Existing patients can also call the clinic directly.

Do you offer same-day appointments?

Often yes, particularly across our city-centre clinics. Last-minute availability is shown live in the booking system.

What happens if I need to cancel?

We ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee.

Which insurers do you work with?

BUPA, Vitality, CIGNA, WPA and Aviva. We can direct-bill most policies; some require pre-authorisation. Bring your policy number and any authorisation reference to your first appointment.

What if my insurer isn't on your list?

We'll happily provide a detailed invoice you can submit for reimbursement. Many smaller insurers cover osteopathy under their musculoskeletal benefit.
