Many conditions benefit from osteopathic treatment: neck and back pain, shoulder and arm problems, pelvis, hip and leg problems, sports and other injuries. Whether you sit at a desk for eight hours a day or you are training for a marathon, osteopathy is a holistic approach to the treatment of a wide range of complaints.
What happens on the day
At the start of the session we explain what osteopathy is, a holistic approach to the treatment of mainly (but not exclusively) musculoskeletal complaints. You may be asked to undress down to your underwear depending on your presenting complaint, as you would for any other medical examination.
A detailed case history is then taken, giving us all the information we need to examine, diagnose and treat accurately. This includes the presenting complaint, previous episodes, past medical history, and (with your permission) anything relevant we'd need to correspond with your GP, consultant or insurer about.
After examination and a first piece of treatment, we give you a prognosis: how long, and how many sessions, we expect it will take for the problem to resolve. Osteopathy does not claim to cure people. It removes obstacles within the body so the body can heal itself. If progress is slower than expected (usually within 4 to 6 weeks), further investigation such as imaging may be useful.
On pricing and number of sessions
It is never possible to predict exactly how many treatments will be needed. We are unlikely to commit you to "10 treatments over 10 weeks" up front. Our commitment is to give our maximum effort, aiming to conclude treatment successfully in the minimum number of sessions necessary, saving you time and money.
Osteopathy is recognised by all major private health insurers (Bupa, Aviva, Vitality, Cigna, WPA). Please check your policy with your insurer before booking.
